Roxby Downs Youth Precinct and Pump Track
Client: Roxby Downs Sport & Rec Forum / Roxby Council
Roxby Downs is a small township located in Northern / Central South Australia. It is a remote and rural community which comprises of mining workers and their families.
The climate is hot and dry all year round with minimal shade and water is a valuable resource, the community and client were interested in a BMX facility to suit the climate. With funding and support sourced through grants, in-kind contractors and council members direction and purpose, TTC were engaged to conduct community engagement, design, planning and construction services.
As part of this enjoyable project, the local youth and school students were engaged, upon a school visit the youth presented their desires, inclusions and designs for the Pump Track and surrounding area.
After a positive and thorough engagement process with council, TTC and stakeholders, we utilised this information to design a youth precinct and asphalt pump track to cater for beginner and intermediate riders. We integrated a jump section, rollable doubles, berms and a wall ride feature for increased user enjoyment and skill development.
Recreation nodes, BBQ’s and amenities were integrated into the design of the facility to encourage family activities and to attract a broader demographic to the space.
Construction of the space is expected to commence in early to mid 2020.
